Workshop Self-organization and Complexity 2017

Our Work- and Walkshop consists of a seminar programme where we consider the behaviour of various complex out-of-equilibrium systems like hydrodynamic flows, lasers, chemical reaction-diffusion systems and biologically-inspired active soft matter systems. Most systems are composed of many microscopic parts that interact nonlinearly and therefore can self-organise and spontaneously form spatial, spatio-temporal, and functional structures. The workshop considers modern experiments, stochastic and deterministic, discrete and continuous modelling approaches, and discusses theoretical and numerical methods. Of considerable interest are methods of nonlinear dynamics like bifurcation theory, chaos theory combined with methods of statistical physics and the theory of stochastic processes.
